Alabama athletic director Bill Battle speaks at the Montgomery Quarterback Club tonight.Alabama athletic director Bill Battle will be the featured speaker at tonight’s Montgomery Quarterback Club meeting.The Quarterback Club meets at the Montgomery Country Club. The social hour is at 5:15 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:15 and the program at 6:45.Bill Battle is in his third year as Alabama’s AD. Battle joined the Crimson Tide after a career as a college football coach and entrepreneur that was consistently hallmarked by innovation and foresight.Battle enjoyed a successful playing career at Alabama and was a three-year started under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant from 1960-62. Battle was a member of Bryant’s first national championship team in 1961. Battle served a graduate assistant at Oklahoma and as an assistant at Army before becoming an assistant at Tennessee in 1966. He was named head coach of the Volunteers in 1970, and at the age of 28, was the youngest head coach in college football.Battle led the Volunteers to a 59-22-2 record during his seven-year tenure as head coach. The Vols finished three times ranked in the top 10 and won four of five bowl games. After coaching, he went into private business and in 1981 founded The Collegiate Licensing Company.The Club will honor its players of the week at the meeting: Montgomery Academy’s Barton Lester and Stanhope Elmore’s B.J.
