Manning called the Waves “a very good team” and was thrilled how his team dominated the contest.Utah had 18 shots on goal compared to just three for Pepperdine and Ute goalkeeper Ashley Mason only had to make one save all night.”I was really pleased with our passing game tonight,” Manning said. “Kiley Jones in the middle is having a great year and she did it again tonight. She was terrific.”Even though the Utes were controlling the action most of the night, they still needed to find a way to score.Their first goal came in the 62nd minute when Adele Letro hit Amanda Feigt with a perfect pass at the top of the goal box and Feigt — left one-on-one against goalkeeper Kayla Stolte — slipped a low shot past her into the net.”Adele always plays great balls through the D and we seem to connect well with each other,” said Feigt. “She made a great pass, the goalie came out and I tried to put it in the back of the net.”In the 79th minute, the Utes gave themselves some breathing room when Melissa Crespo put a header high into the net off a corner kick by Whitney Dorsey.”We actually practiced that yesterday,” Crespo said. “Whit gave me a perfect ball and it made my job easy.” The Utes begin their defense of their MWC title Thursday when UNLV visits Ute Field for a 3 p.m. game. Then on Saturday the Utes square off against BYU at 1 p.m. last_img
