first_imgLiverpool boss Klopp: What I want from an attacking midfield signingby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has detailed what he is seeking in an attacking midfield signing. The Reds were linked heavily with a new attacking midfielder last summer following the January departure of Philippe Coutinho and had agreed a deal with Lyon for Nabil Fekir before the plug was pulled on the transfer.”Football changed in the last 20-30 years so you don’t rely on one player on the pitch anymore,” said Klopp, talking on a New Balance Football promotional video. “It has changed massively.”They are today rather offensive players, changing the game, demanding the game, dominating the game.”You need a lot of skills to do that, you need to be technically really close to perfect because to make the right decision at the right moment you should not waste time with controlling the ball to be honest.”The most difficult thing in football is making perfect decisions under timed pressure.”It looks so easy and it’s so difficult so you should not think about that, you have to do it instinctively.”It’s today the kind of number eight on the pitch, they have the ball most often, they pass most often and so they make most of the decisions or at least they are involved in most of the decisions.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

PSU’s Herb Hand Upset With Pitt’s John Peterson After “Olive Branch” Selfie

first_imgHerb Hand takes selfie with Pitt's John Peterson. For a few hours, it looked like the beef between offensive line coaches Herb Hand and John Peterson had been squashed. A truce does not appear to have been reached after all, however.Earlier this offseason, Peterson and Hand had gone back and forth on Twitter debating which program – Penn State or Pitt – was the best in the state of Pennsylvania. It continued Thursday, as Peterson purposely put an “X” in front of both “State” and “College” when explaining where he was headed for a high school coaches convention. But Peterson eventually ran into Hand at the meetup, and the two took a selfie together. In tate ollege for the Pennsylvania high school coaches convention! #H2P— john peterson (@coachjpete) February 13, 2015My friend and I @CoachHand at the Pennsylvania high school coaches convention! HAIL TO OLINE! pic.twitter.com/chM2m53uGB— john peterson (@coachjpete) February 13, 2015Hand, however, did not realize that Peterson had dissed his program just hours earlier. Friday, he took to Twitter to tell his followers that he should have checked Peterson’s feed before agreeing to what he called an “olive branch” selfie. He also included the hashtag #BackToDominating and a funny Jim Carrey GIF.Should have checked my counterpart’s feed before our ‘olive branch’ selfie. https://t.co/sxCFvtMA59 #BackToDominating pic.twitter.com/fTeDJvBZt4— Herb Hand (@CoachHand) February 13, 2015As a reminder, Penn State and Pitt renew their rivalry in 2016.last_img read more

Here’s What The Simulated BCS Rankings Would Look Like After Week 13

first_imgA simulated BCS rankings through week 13.Yesterday offered a lot of clarity in the College Football Playoff chase. Oklahoma clinched the Big 12 title and assured themselves a playoff berth with a win over Oklahoma State, and the Michigan State-Iowa Big Ten title tilt is set up as a de facto CFP play-in game. Alabama and Clemson will also make the four-team field, provided they take care of business in their respective conference title games next week. Everything seems pretty cut and dry at this point.Still, it’s always interesting to wonder how things would have shaken out under the old BCS system. The guys at BCS Know How have been releasing updated, simulated BCS rankings each week. Here’s a look at how the BCS would have sorted the contending teams with one week to go in the season. This week’s simulated “BCS” rankings are here: pic.twitter.com/UUX60ozRlZ— BCSKnowHow.com (@BCSKnowHow) November 29, 2015I don’t think the protest for an Alabama-Clemson championship game would be too loud, but the fans in Norman, Okla., have to be happy this system isn’t in place anymore. After all, the Sooners would be the odd team out as of now.last_img read more

Juventus to sanction loan for €30m addition Romero

first_imgJuventus will allow Cristian Romero to spend the 2019-20 campaign on loan at Genoa despite investing €30 million (£26m/$33m) in securing his services, Goal can confirm. The 21-year-old defender is due to officially become a Bianconeri player this summer.Goal revealed back in February that the Serie A champions had a deal in place and Genoa president Enrico Preziosi then confirmed as much in May. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? He said: “You all know that there is a negotiation in progress – [Romero] will go to Juventus.”The sale of Piatek and that of Romero will definitely put the club’s accounts in order. The sale of Piatek, from a corporate point of view, was a very good move.”Genoa’s finances are very healthy. We will have no debt to the treasury within this year.”Romero is considered to be a hot prospect for the future, but Juventus are prepared to let him further his development outside of Turin.A loan switch is set to be sanctioned, with only the terms of that agreement set to be thrashed out.It could be that Romero is allowed to stay on at Genoa for a single season or across a two-year spell.Juventus have a long-term contract in place with Romero so time is on their side when it comes to welcoming him into the fold. There remains intense competition for places in the ranks of the Italian title holders and there is a desire to avoid stunting Romero’s progress. The Bianconeri are also in the process of wrapping up a deal for Sassuolo loanee Merih Demiral. The Turkey international is considered to be better placed than Romero to step immediately into first-team plans in Turin, despite also being just 21 years of age. That means that an Argentine youngster will have to seek out minutes elsewhere.Romero will be allowed to complete his apprenticeship away from the glare of the spotlight at the Allianz Stadium before being given his chance to shine.Juve have no need to rush him, despite parting with a sizeable fee, as they are also strengthening their defensive options with other deals.A summer switch had been mooted for Daniele Rugani, but the 24-year-old Italy international is now poised to sign fresh terms through to the end of the 2023-24 campaign.last_img read more
